5 Habits You Need to Break to Avoid Getting Wrinkles Under Your Eyes

wrinkles_treatmentindelhi

There’s no time like the new year to break bad habits, and when it comes to bad habits that cause under-eye wrinkles, the sooner you shape up, the better your skin will look.

Eye wrinkles – fine lines that appear around and below the eyes – are nearly inevitable as we age. With age, skin loses its moisture and elasticity. The skin around the eyes is particularly thin and delicate, making it more susceptible to wrinkling.

There are a lot of treatments available to take care of these annoying lines, but there are also things you can do, or habits you can break in the New Year, that can help.

1. Stop Skipping The Sunscreen.

Not only is using sunscreen an important step to preventing serious types of skin cancer, but it also helps keep skin from losing moisture and becoming more prone to dryness and wrinkles.
Even if you’re not heading to the pool or beach, lather up any exposed skin, particularly the face, when heading outdoors. Many daily facial moisturizers contain SPF, combatting dryness and harmful UV rays in one simple step. LaRoche Posay and ColoreScience SPF offer great products with longer-lasting high UVA/UVB broad spectrum protection.

2. Give up Smoking.

It’s not an easy habit to break, but it’s definitely something you should avoid if you want to take good care of your skin. In addition to all of the other disastrous health effects that smoking that can have on your body, your skin’s appearance is yet another casualty.

Smoking narrows the blood vessels and restricts blood flow to the skin, depriving it of oxygen, nutrients, and moisture. This leads to older, dryer skin, particularly in the face, which can make you look older than you really are. Moisturizing is crucial to help combat dryness. Try using DEJ eye cream, a moisturizing treatment that helps nourish the skin around the eye.

3. Stop squinting.

If you find yourself squinting in order to see something in the distance, or even up close, it might be time to make that eye doctor appointment. Squinting to read something is a common habit, but doing it repeatedly can cause wrinkles in the delicate eye area.

People also commonly squint while in the brightness of the outdoors. Be sure to wear sunglasses even on cloudy days to prevent squinting.

4. Try not to sleep on your stomach or on your side.

It might sound funny, but sleeping on your back can actually help reduce the emergence of facial wrinkles. Sleeping on your side or your stomach means that your face comes into contact with your pillow. Since wrinkles are caused by the loss of collagen and elasticity, when you apply the repeated pressure of your face to the pillow, you’re helping to break down the collagen.

5. Be more gentle when removing makeup.

If you rub your eyes with a washcloth to remove eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara, you may want to reconsider that approach. It can easily damage the thin, fine skin around the eyes. To remove makeup gently, apply a mild makeup remover or natural oil to a soft cotton pad or cloth and press on the eyelashes and eyelids for a few minutes. Then, carefully massage the lashes and wipe in the direction of the lashes. Finish with a moisturizing eye cream.

If that sounds like too much work, remember that sleeping in your eye makeup is just as bad! Makeup particles settle into pores and make fine lines appear even more noticeable. If you’re not removing your makeup, you’re probably skipping the moisturizer as well, which leaves fine under-eye skin more susceptible to developing wrinkles.
